Applied after built-in and dictionary styles, inside the popup only. Changes preview as you type.

Invalid rules are ignored by the browser. Styles using URLs can request external resources.

Automatically play the first lookup result

Browser speech can play in this overlay, but cannot be recorded into Anki. Add a downloadable pronunciation source to fill {audio} fields.

Help

URL templates accept {term}, {expression}, {reading} and {language}, URL-encoded. Yomitan JSON sources return an audioSourceList.

Shift-click or right-click the popup's audio button to choose a pronunciation.

To add browser speech to Anki, start Media capture with shared audio.

Sources receive the word and reading. Remote URLs need HTTPS; localhost may use HTTP. Some system voices are online.

Capture is stopped.

Open the capture controls to choose a tab, window, or entire screen. Capture keeps running when you close the controls. Hachidori never requests microphone access.

Dictionary-specific markers

Replace DICTIONARY in {single-glossary-DICTIONARY}, {single-frequency-DICTIONARY} or {single-frequency-number-DICTIONARY} with the dictionary marker shown in its Details. Single-glossary variants also support -brief, -no-dictionary, -plain and -plain-no-dictionary. Empty, colliding or shadowed names can use {single-glossary-id--PACKAGE-ID}, where PACKAGE-ID is the dictionary's 32-character lowercase hexadecimal ID.

Keybinds

Keyboard shortcuts for the lookup popup and page. Changes save automatically.

Select a Keys field and press the combination to use. Popup keybinds act on the current entry: the first one, or the last one you moved to or clicked.

Browser shortcuts

Chrome runs these on any page. Popup actions need an open popup. Change them in Chrome's extension shortcuts.

Backup & restore

Save a backup

Includes every dictionary, media and styles, your personal source, groups, and all saved settings.

The archive is not encrypted. Keep it private: it includes custom URLs and your AnkiConnect API key, if configured. Unsaved edits are not included.

Automatic backups

Hachidori takes one snapshot a day and keeps the newest ones on this device. They contain the same saved settings and personal data as an export, including your AnkiConnect API key if configured.

Days kept days Older snapshots are removed when the next daily snapshot is taken.
